Dear Friend,
As we sit here with our cups of coffee in hand, I can see the heaviness in your heart. The news of the wildfires ravaging Southern California has shaken so many of us. The images of homes engulfed in flames, families displaced, and brave firefighters risking their lives are enough to bring us to our knees. If you feel helpless or overwhelmed, know that you are not alone. But more importantly, remember that God is with us, even in the fire.
In moments like these, it’s tempting to ask, “Where is God?” Yet, the truth is, He is present in the chaos and in the quiet after the storm. The prophet Isaiah reminds us:
“When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.” — Isaiah 43:2-3 (NIV)
God does not promise us a life without hardships, but He promises His presence in the midst of them. Right now, we need to lean into that promise with faith.
Praying for the Victims
Our prayers are a lifeline not only for our hearts but for others who are suffering. The Apostle Paul encourages us:
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” — Romans 12:12 (NIV)
Pray for the families who have lost homes. Pray for the first responders who are weary and courageous. Pray for those who are in shelters, longing for the comfort of their own beds. Prayer may not feel like much in the face of a wildfire, but it is an offering of trust to the One who calms storms and gives peace beyond understanding.
A Call to Action
Faith often leads us to love in action. Perhaps you feel a pull in your spirit to do more. If you do, that is God stirring you toward purpose. Whether it’s donating to relief organizations, offering shelter to those displaced, or simply spreading awareness, every small gesture becomes a beacon of God’s love.
“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” — Hebrews 13:16 (ESV)
Remember that generosity can look different for everyone. Sometimes, it’s offering time, resources, or even just a kind word to a weary soul.
Gratitude in the Midst of Loss
In times of crisis, we often realize how fragile life is. When destruction is all around, it shifts our perspective, reminding us of the incredible gift of our relationships. Tell your loved ones how much they mean to you. Give thanks for the blessings in your life today.
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV)
Gratitude doesn’t ignore the pain; it shines a light in the darkness. It’s a way of anchoring ourselves to God’s goodness when the world feels out of control.
God’s Steady Hand
As you carry this concern in your heart, I want to encourage you to find moments of stillness with God. Take time to sit in His presence. Let Him whisper peace over your soul. The fire may rage outside, but God’s love surrounds you, unshaken and steadfast.
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10 (NIV)
The world may feel fragile, but His promises remain unbreakable. So take heart, my friend. You are not alone in this. We will pray together, act with love, and trust that God is still writing His story of hope and redemption, even in the ash.
Let’s finish this cup of coffee and then spend a quiet moment in prayer for the hurting.
May the Lord bless you and fill your heart with His peace.
In grace and love,
Bishop G.E. Livingston
