“The richest inheritance any man can leave his children is a godly example.” – William Arthur Ward
Have you ever received an inheritance? Maybe it was a family heirloom, a sum of money, or a piece of property. Inheritance is a powerful concept—it represents something passed down to you, something you didn’t necessarily work for, yet it legally belongs to you.
As believers in Jesus Christ, we have an inheritance far greater than anything this world can offer. This inheritance is not just material wealth—it is spiritual, eternal, and life-transforming! Let’s explore what the Bible says about the glorious inheritance we have in Christ.
1. Adoption as God’s Children (Romans 8:17)
“Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” – Romans 8:17
When we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, we are adopted into God’s family. We are no longer outsiders, but children of the King of kings! As His children, we are legally entitled to an inheritance that belongs to God Himself.
Think about that: the Creator of the universe calls you His child. Your identity is no longer found in your past, your mistakes, or your family background—it is rooted in Christ. And as an heir, you share in all that belongs to your Heavenly Father!
2. Salvation and Eternal Life (1 Peter 1:3-4)
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you.” – 1 Peter 1:3-4
Our greatest inheritance is salvation and eternal life. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, we have the assurance of heaven—a place of perfect joy, peace, and the presence of God forever.
Unlike earthly inheritances, which can be lost, stolen, or spent, our inheritance in Christ can never perish, spoil, or fade. It is eternally secure in Him!
3. Sharing in Christ’s Glory (Romans 8:17; Ephesians 1:11-14)
Not only are we saved, but we also share in Christ’s glory. Ephesians 1:11-14 tells us that we were marked with the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of our inheritance.
This means:
✅ We are chosen and predestined to be part of God’s plan.
✅ We have the Holy Spirit as a seal and deposit guaranteeing what is to come.
✅ We will one day experience the fullness of Christ’s glory in heaven.
This is not just about what happens after we die—it affects how we live today. The glory of Christ is already at work in us, transforming us daily!
4. The Earth as Our Inheritance (Psalm 2:8; Romans 4:13)
“Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.” – Psalm 2:8
Many believers don’t realize that God has also promised us the earth as part of our inheritance. Romans 4:13 says that Abraham’s descendants (which includes us through faith) are heirs of the world!
This means:
✔️ We have spiritual authority on the earth.
✔️ God blesses and provides for us in this life, not just in eternity.
✔️ We have a responsibility to steward the earth and expand God’s kingdom here.
5. Present and Future Blessings (Ephesians 1:13-14)
Many believers think their inheritance in Christ is only for heaven, but God has also given us blessings for the present life!
Ephesians 1:13-14 says that the Holy Spirit is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance. This means that while we will receive the full measure of our inheritance in eternity, we can already experience parts of it right now!
What does this look like?
🔥 Peace and joy in the midst of trials
🔥 Divine provision and supernatural favor
🔥 Healing, breakthrough, and answered prayers
🔥 Authority over the enemy and victory in spiritual battles
We don’t have to wait until heaven to walk in the benefits of our inheritance—we can claim God’s promises today!
